CWTS2

March 31, 2012
Orientation
Before we went to, Brgy. Tatalon, our professor, Ms. Manaligod oriented us what are the do’s and dont’s. She told us what place we’re going to, the kind of people we’ll meet, their attitudes and ethics.

Day One: April 10, 2012
Meeting with the kids
Around 8:30am, we and our professor, Ms. Manaligod went to Brgy. Tatalon. My group mates (Carla, Joy, Cassinni, Dianne, Nicole, Niccon, France and Coleen) and I chose children ages 1-5 years old. It was chaotic. First, we don’t have plans yet; don’t know how to start and the place where we can apply our project plan which is Filipino games.
My group talk about plans that we should do for this day, they said that as a teacher we should be the first one to introduce ourselves so that the children will be comfortable in us. We used yarn, so that everybody will be called by passing it to another person. I was thanking Cassini when she came, because she knows how to handle it. Immediately, she got the heart of the kids. She teaches us together with the kids a song that everybody knows, like “Maliliit na Gagamba” and “Kung Ikaw Ay Masaya”. Because we didn’t have plans, she invented three stories (Crocodile and the 5 ducklings, Friends of Worm, and The Little Spider), after the stories, the rest of the members assisted the children in colouring the paper works (Mommy Duck and the friends of the worm- dog, fish, etc) I helped Cassinni when she deliver her stories and assisting them in their paper works
It was kids’ break time, half of the class doesn’t have snacks to eat and whole of the class was thirsty. So we bought 1 pitcher of cold water for the children and some biscuits to fill their tummies. So pity of them, so I said to my co-educators and to the child’s parents that it is better to bring their child a snack for recess and for lunch time than they will go home and eat at their houses.
Before the day ended, we discussed plans for tomorrow’s activities, which will be in charge in telling stories, what things we should buy, arts and crafts and games. I also suggested to my group mates that we should take note each child’s hygiene. I observed that they lack in cleanliness in their selves, the tendency is, they smell bad, their skin has many wounds and the hairs has so many lies and everything.

Day Two: April 11, 2012
Hungry Caterpillar (Ang Gutom na Uod)
Carla Asuncion and Joy Faminialagao
and
Emma the Enchantress (Emma Enchantada)
Nicole Mangay and Niconn Pille
Another day has come, and we’re ready to face the children with full gladness and activities that we sure that they would enjoy. We started our class around 8:30am. Carla and Joy started their storytelling to the children, all participated in motivating the kids to the story. After the story, they gave out coloring papers. After that, the children ate their lunch.  We are really concern in their hygiene and be comfortable when they sleep. So we wipe their back using a towel then we put powder in their necks, body and in their armpit. And before and after they eat, I will make sure that they wash their hands with soap, then wipe their hands using hand towel that we provided. When everyone was awaked, Cassinni teaches us a new song “Ikot, Hila, Pok-Pok, Gupit At Tahi”. The children get it easily.
Nicole and Niccon started telling their stories; all were amazed at participating because they used puppets to make the presentation more fun and to be easily understood by the kids. Children understood the moral value of the story, which is helping to clean the environment by not littering, wasting water and electricity. After the story, they present a toy bee named Buzz to take the colors of it.
The story was finished and I’ve suggested that we play a game called “The boat is sinking”. Everyone knows and enjoyed it. We always tell to the children that they will receive their prices at the last day of our CWTS, which is April 14. Its dismissal time, we teachers talk about our plans for tomorrow and thankfully we made it.

Day Three: April 12, 2012

Pulang Manok and Nena mamaya Na
Dianne Macayan and Coleen Lim
It is our third day in Brgy. Tatalon, we are excited to teach the children more stories. When we came at the classroom, it is quite disappointing that the students were few. We asked the administration of Brgy. Tatalon about this and told that the Brgy. Agono will come tomorrow, they don’t also know why.
Before we started our activities, warm-up and sing their favourite songs was the first thing we did. So everyone was enthusiastic to listen and participate in the class. Then Dianne started her story about the Red Hen and the fox. It was a bit fun when she was telling a story because she makes movements (jumping, running) with full expressions. The kids were laughing at her because she was funny. I realized that someday she will become successful pre-school teacher. We proceeded with the coloring activity, so we decided to make origami/paper folding which is a duck. They enjoyed making it because they will put an eye to the face; they thought that the duck they made was looking at them.
Finally, its lunch time. Its time for us to eat and rest in our nap time. Of course, before they sleep, we would make sure that all the children smelled fresh.
Its time to shine for Coleen, she started her story “Nena Mamaya Na” when everybody was awake. Her story was understood by the kids since they can relate to it. Most of us would say “later”/”mamaya na”. When Cassinni asked the kids who take a bath every day, we raised our hands, except for one student. She said that once a day she was taking a bath because her mom told her that it was hard to wash clothes and making sure that she will never make any sweat. That was my first time to hear a person says that. Then I realized the reality of this people and thanking God for giving me parents that support us and do their best not to experience poverty.
It’s time to play! We connected our game in the story of Dianne, “Ang Pulang Manok”. The game should consist one lawin, mommy chicken and chicks. After we said the rules and steps, we also demonstrated it so that the children would really understand what we are saying. The implementation of the game was really enjoyable.

Day Four: April 13, 2012
3 Little Pigs (3 Baboy) and Parts of the Body
France Capareda, Rezlyn Esteban and Cassinni Lingo
This fourth day was exciting, because i was the one who will give story about the 3 little pigs. Before the day came, I made sure that the materials needed for the activity was complete and well-organized. When I got there, I was disappointed of what I saw, the kids from Brgy. Agono didn’t attend at the second time. I feel sorry because they will not hear my story also my arts I’ve prepared for them. Anyway, the show must go on. To start up our class, we sang a warm-up and favourite song of the kids, which is the “kung ikaw ay Masaya”. When I noticed everybody’s participating in the class, I started motivating the children by pasting the parts of the face of the pig. After that, I’ve started my story. I was so happy when I saw their faces participating and listening to my story. I’ve imagined what they imagined in the story. It is interesting to me when every kids always different houses which is the straws, sticks and blocks house.

Lunch and nap time has finished, the kids was ready for another round of learnings. Cassinni was the one who will teach the kids the parts of the body. I saw HOW curious they were in their body parts. After it, Cass gave them a board game (connecting the right places of the body). With no assistance from the teachers, we witness the kids that they really understood what has been discussed. It was a fulfilment for Cass and also to the other group mates.
When everyone went in the classroom, we started cleaning and made design at the room for the party for tomorrow. With the help of Nicole, we designed the blackboard. We put all the characters in the stories and a Thanksgiving party words. Others, compiled all the paper activities did by the kids, plan our prices and foods that we will serve for them and also games. Everything was set.

Day Five: April 14, 2012
Thanksgiving Party

Last day is the happiest and also saddest. It was happy because your CWTS2 was finished and sad because you will miss those kids that they make you feel that you are special and lovable teacher.

Joy and I went to the Angel’s hamburger and buy 26 pieces of it before going to Brgy Tatalon. Dianne bought drinks and the others were in charge of the prizes. When we got to the place, we expected that kids in Brgy. Tatalon will not come and join with us. Up until now, we didn’t know why. But we were so happy when half of the kids were happy to see, so they hugged us with love and excitement. After a few minutes, we started the games. First game was stop dance. That game was a bit long among all the games we had. We had “trip to Jerusalem” and lastly, the egg hunting game. The plastic eggs were provided by France. Whoever got many eggs will have a prize.

Now time for a break and we gave them hamburger and juice drink, also to the administrators and to Ms. Manaligod. Awardings was the next one and also the gifts away. Of course, class pictures until the camera’s battery has been exhausted or low.
All in all, what CWTS2 did to us college students, is to awaken us to the real world of people in the poverty line. Before, I don’t want to be friends with poor people because I don’t like the way they speak, their values and ethics. But then, I’ve realized that they need help from people who are more blessed to teach them the proper ways in life. Also family and education is the key to help children to become a better person. Now, I understood the side of the people who needs help. I was thankful to God for giving me this opportunity to help children in their lives. Like their hygiene and the good things that they should know. Also CWTS2 helps me to become ready when I become teacher someday.
